Tom Clark, an official ComedySportz coach, attended a Costa ComedySportz meeting on Feb. 28 to decide which rookie players on the team are eligible to compete in official matches.

After watching the rookie players, team members who are new to the ComedySportz team this year, perform scenes, Clark decided that all were eligible to compete in matches alongside their upperclassman teammates.

“I am so glad that the coach saw enough potential for me to play,” ComedySportz team member freshman Miranda Baldo said. “It’s a huge opportunity for me, and I hope that I won’t let our team down.”

Over the course of this school year, the Costa ComedySportz team has won three of the four matches it has played.

“I’m really proud of how the ComedySportz team has improved this year,” co-manager Molly Curtis said. “I am looking forward to seeing the new players progress as they move onto this semester of matches.”

In its last match, Costa ComedySportz lost to El Segundo High School on Feb. 15. Costa players in the first half were senior Taylor Howat, junior Gabby Wolf and sophomores Sarah Colen and Armance Sherman. In the second half, sophomore Christie Carey replaced Wolf.

“Everyone did a fantastic job,” Colen said. “Our team and El Segundo worked well together and although we lost, everyone had a great time. For our next match, we could work on having more energy overall.”

The next ComedySportz match will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Costa drama room.

“I am so excited to be able to participate in a game with all of the extremely talented and hilarious new players,” Colen said.
