On Jan. 20 at 7 p.m, Costa’s Comedy Sportz team won in a match against Costa parents in the small theater.

For the first half, the students’ team included juniors Abby Brown and Jackson Yollin, and seniors Drew Martin and Lizzy Fleming. The parents’ team included Mary Beth Brown, Chris Brown, Peter Yollin, and Jack Martin.

“The games are very interactive with the audience because it determines who wins the games through laughs and cheers,” said senior Lia Defonce-Martini. “It is very important because it determines the winner and helps with all of the games.”

The match started with the game “What You Got.” The next games included “Genre Replay;” “Forward Reverse;” “Doctor Know it All;” “My Movie;” and “Object Freeze,” leaving the students in the lead, 21- 20, at halftime.

“It was fun having the parents play as the other team,” said Defonce-Martini. “It was especially fun because my mom and dad played on the other team.” The starters were replaced by Defonce-Martini, seniors Jack Searer and Justin Mckendry, and junior Devan Malik on the students’ team, and Cheryl Defonce, Lisa Searer, Curt Balmer, and Karl Meyer on the parents’ team. The students won the match, 59-48.

“The parents were only given a couple of hours on the day of the match to learn and practice the games,” said Malik. “I was definitely impressed with the parents, and I think they did a great job.”
