On Nov. 9, girls tennis fell to Los Osos High School, 12-6. After winning its first two matches of CIF prior to the loss, the team was eliminated in the quarter finals. Although Los Osos was a tough team, the girls continued to play hard throughout the entire match, ac-
cording to junior Skyla Kallis.

“After the first two rounds, Los Osos only needed one more game to win,” Kallis said. “It was hard for our team to start to accept the defeat, but it didn’t stop us from trying our hardest and having fun.”

Los Osos defeated Costa in all three rounds. According to Kallis, freshman Rachel Hang-Rothman, sophomore Alisa Lansky, and freshman Malia Fernandez all played extremely hard in singles, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win. Lansky won all three of her matches, and junior Ava Nicols subbed in for singles, securing a fourth win for the team.

“I’m glad that I was able to bring three wins in our last match of the season,” sophomore Alisa Lansky said. “I think everyone did a great job this season, and I can’t wait for next year.”

According to Patel, the girls’ doubles teams also fought hard during its matches. Juniors Bridget Ballentine and Skyla Kallis won two out of their three matches, while sophomores Bryce Kessler and Kasey Kernochan defeated Los Osos in one match. Both wins were extremely beneficial, but Costa was still not able to pull through.

“Even though we lost against Los Osos, we had a great run in CIF,” junior Ashna Patel said. “I’m proud of our team
and all the effort we put in to get to the quarterfinals.”

Although this marks the end of the 2022 girls tennis season, the Mustangs look forward to coming back next year. According to Kallis, the team is going to continue to practice in order to win both the Bay League and CIF next season.

“Los Osos is an extremely tough team, and all the girls knew this going into the match,” senior Charlotte Zaumeyer said.

“We fought our hardest and I’m incredibly proud of my girls. I’m going to miss this team a lot, but I am excited to see the big things they will accomplish.”
