Track members qualify for CIF finals

The Mira Costa track team had few members that qualified to participate in the CIF individuals preliminary round on May 11. After the meet some Mustangs qualified to advance to the next round at CIF finals.

Senior Raphael Lawson-Gayle set the new Costa record in the 100 meter sprint at 10:97. It was previously set in 2006 at 10:99. He will also advance in the long jump. Junior Abby Hong will advance in the girls 3200 meter. In boys pole vault, seniors Sean Griffin and Reed Scale will both advance to the next round. The boys 4×4 meters won the heat at 3:24.

“This meet was amazing because It is such a great accomplishment to break the record,” Lawson-Gayle said. “I have remained focus all season and I’m ready to move on to the finals.”

The Mustangs will advance to the CIF finals on May 18.
