Baseball won its home game against the Santa Monica Vikings 10-2 in a home game on Friday, May 21st. The Mustangs got off to a strong start, thanks to senior pitcher Andrew Hiestand, who allowed only one run during the first four innings.

“The biggest factor that led to our team’s win was a shutout performance by Andrew Hiestand on the mound,” junior Ben Gneiser said. “He threw six innings with ten strikeouts and put our team in a position where we were able to execute offensively and score multiple runs throughout the game.”

The team’s offense played a major role in its win against the Vikings. Hitting off the bat, the team scored three runs in the first inning alone, and another two in the second inning. Senior Dylan Knowles hit a one-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting the score at 6-1 with the Mustangs in the lead.

“I think that hit set the tone for the rest of the game,” junior Addison Lee said. “It gave us a push to have a big inning, which ended up determining the final outcome for our team.”

The final game of the Mustangs’ regular season will take place on May 27th, where they will face Redondo in an away game. According to Gneiser the team has high hopes for the game, and plans on being tough competition during CIF.

“As for CIF, we are taking it one game at a time,” Gneiser said. “We’ve prepared for this part of the season all year and I have no doubt that if we keep playing as a team and continue to win the small aspects of the game, we will succeed overall.”
