Lilly Allen’s “Sheezus” bores

Lilly Allen released her newest album, “Sheezus” which provides us with Allen’s less than satisfactory album.

“Sheezus” is overwhelmingly pop as Allen has strayed from her cool catchy persona. The boring new sound is unsatisfactory due to lack of depth and tremendous style change for Allen. She deprives Allen fans of her original style.

Allen has released three albums. Prior to “Sheezus” Allen was focused on setting herself apart from the crowd with crude, catchy songs, which indeed brought her the recognition she wanted. This album lacks Allen’s humor which was largest identifying factor.

In 2005, London Recordings signed Allen which soon lost interest in Allen and turned her away. Allen took a break with music before later in that year she signed with Regal Recordings. Allen released her debut album “Alright, Still” in 2006. The album was a hit as “Smile” made its way to the top of the charts providing Allen with a large fan base. In 2009, “Its not me its you,” as her second album which quickly made it to the top of the charts in UK.

This album lacks the humor that makes Allen, leaving her with nothing but catchy pop songs. Previously Allen was able to set herself apart from being just another artist.

“L8 CMMR” makes it clear how Allen is now a strictly pop artist. Instead of talking about something funny she goes on about love which is strange due to her anti romantic, satirical personality.

The instrumentals are fairly similar to Allen’s previous works, by making high and happy sounds which have been heard since album one.

The music that Allen has created is boring. All of the songs now are about romance and her relationships.

Overall “Sheezus” is mediocre: Allen has betrayed what she used to stand for. The whole album screams ordinary. There were some glimpses of the old Allen which, hopefully she will stay true to in the future.

“Sheezus” came out on May 6 and is available online and in retail from $8.99-$12.99.
