“Gone Girl” is a shocking film of a wife’s loyalty and a husband’s ignorance.

“Gone Girl”, directed by David Fincher, transforms the fictional book, written by Gillian Flynn, into a heart-stopping film, which contains a convincing cast and plot that always seem to keep the film suspenseful.

The two protagonists, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike), are a married couple approaching their five-year wedding anniversary. The morning of their anniversary, Amy mysteriously disappears from their home, with all evidence pointing towards kidnapping.

As the whole town tries to track her down, everyone becomes suspicious that Nick had something to do with her disappearance. Under the watchful eye of the media, Nick struggles to keep his composure as he tries to clear his name.

The cast is perfectly cast for this film. Pike and Affleck are convincing as an unstable couple due to their array of emotions, which makes each of them very realistic. The rest of the cast is also spectacular because of its amazing facial expressions and behavior to portray its surprise and hate during the sinister scenes of the film.

The movie has mysterious music and build up, using thrilling tunes such as electronic noises and even silence. Creepy melodies are strategically paired with electrifying events as the story progresses. The dead silence and eerie tones are used by the music director to emphasize danger and the music keeps the mood frightening, which strikes fear into the audience.

The lighting is very dark in order to depict a menacing picture of the murder mystery film while bright light is also used to highlight happier moments. The lighting is key to creating the well balanced setting and makes the film creepier and more engaging.

The spooky set mainly takes place in a vacant, recession-struck community in North Carthage, Missouri. The setting complements the plot because the recession opens more problems than the ones the characters are already experiencing and it plays a major role in the film.

“Gone Girl” is a breathtaking mystery filled with shocking and riveting scenes. The characters keep everyone on the edge of their seats along with a suspenseful plot and engaging setting.

“Gone Girl” is rated R and playing in theaters nationwide.
