Mira Costa High School inducted six alumni on Oct. 3 into the Mira Costa Alumni Hall of Fame, following a school wide assembly.

This year’s six inductees were Noreen Harris Baer from the Class of 1980, who became a successful musician; Huntley Castner from the class of 1981, once the CEO of Yogurtland; Lance Dixon from the class of 1978, who researches particle physics; Jim Lindberg from the class of 1983, the lead singer of Pennywise, and spouses Cormac Wibberley from the class of 1978 and Marianne Wibberley from the class of 1982, who are both Hollywood screen writers.

“I did not see myself becoming so successful in the future,” Marianne Wibberley said, “However, the social and educational aspect of Costa really set me up for success in life.”

The Hall of Fame selection committee, which consists of a former inductee, two teachers, the Associated Student Body president and the Parent Teacher Association’s president, nominated the inductees because they have served, inspired, or achieved in art, science, academia or athletics.

“I was so excited for this year’s group,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said, “They have all accomplished so much and have made us proud to call them Mustangs.”

The chosen alumni were honored at two student body assemblies, each gave a speech about his or her experiences at Mira Costa and their achievements after graduation.

“My husband Cormac and I were very surprised to be elected into the Hall of Fame.” Marianne Wibberley said. “Neither of us thought that we would be here in our future, so we were very honored.”

After the two Hall of Fame ceremonies, select Costa students with similar interests escorted the alumni around campus.

“It is an amazing honor to be honored and to visit the students because Manhattan Beach is a great town, Costa is an amazing school, and everyone that goes to Mira Costa is very fortunate,” Rohrer said.

Costa honored the inductees again at the Homecoming football game later that night against Newport Harbor.

“It is a great way for both Mira Costa and Manhattan Beach to recognize the success of those we raised together as a village,” Dale said.
