Manhattan Beach TEDx chose 15 TEDx speakers that will present their varied innovative ideas on Nov. 15 to the Manhattan Beach community from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manhattan Beach Middle School.

TEDX is a worldwide program, licensed by the nonprofit organization TED, that hosts different themed community events.

“TEDx Manhattan Beach is an event to spark questioning in our own community,” TEDx Manhattan Beach license holder and curator Kate Bergin said. “It is used to inspire attendees to find their own story.”

The theme of this year’s event is “Game Changers” and will have speakers who changed their community, their personal lives or the world at large. Some of the speakers include Court Crandall, Manhattan Beach community member and founder of “Positivity,” which encourages philanthropic ideas. One of the youngest speakers at the event is a Vistamar senior, Julia Horwitz, who will be talking about spoken poetry.

“I first learned about spoken word poetry from watching a TEDx talk,” Horwitz said. “It’s surreal that I have this opportunity.”

Costa’s TEDx Club is currently selling tickets for the event.

“It is important for high school students to attend because education doesn’t just happen in a classroom,” Bergin said.
