Orchestra and band ensembles from every Manhattan Beach Unified School District school will participate in two separate All-District festivals for orchestra and band on Thursday and Feb. 12 at the Mira Costa High School auditorium.

According to Manhattan Beach Middle School music teacher Denise Haslop, the All-District festivals are held to allow musical collaboration between schools and different grade levels.
“The more we perform, the better musicians we become,” Haslop said. “It’s nice to be able to watch that happen. ”

All orchestra and band ensembles from Manhattan Beach Middle School and Mira Costa will also be performing. MBMS String Ensemble will play “Variations on Paganini,” arranged by Robert D. McCashin, alongside Mira Costa’s Chamber Ensemble.

“This concert helps show the growth of excellence through the years in the arts programs here in Manhattan Beach,” Costa orchestra director Peter Park said.

However, the fifth-grade band and strings classes and the Honor Band and Honor Strings will be the only students from MBUSD’s five elementary schools performing.

“This concert is a chance for all bands to combine for an exciting rendition of music,” elementary band director Tim Nail said.
