The Mira Costa Mustangs boys volleyball team lost Saturday’s neutral non-conference match against Newbury Park by a score of 3-2. In the Tournament of Champions, the Mustangs fell third round to Newbury Park. With two starters still out with injuries, the Mustangs struggled at the beginning of the game, leading to the loss.

The Mustangs fell behind in the first games, losing 25-20 and 25-16. In the following matches, the team bounced back with the help of outside Junior Roy McFarland, winning 25-18 and 15-16. In the third and final match the Mustangs lost 16-14.

“We dug a hole for ourselves in the beginning,” Junior Sam Jones said. “We did a good job coming back but we couldn’t get the job done.”

The Mustangs next game will be away at Palos Verdes on Tuesday, April 21 at 4:30. This will be the fifth conference game of the year. The Sea Kings are 14-7 and have already lost to the Mustangs earlier in the year.

“We beat them earlier in the year and we can do it again,” McFarland said. “We just need to bounce back from that loss and we will be fine.”
