Kevin James returns to the main screen with more Segway riding than ever in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.”

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2”’s comedic yet immature acting and humor overrule the tedious plot and horrible script.

Paul Blart’s fame reaches Vegas where he is invited to a security guard convention. His vacation soon turns south when he accidentally interferes with a major heist and becomes determined to stop this heist with help only from other security guards.

The countless corny jokes in “Mall Cop 2” are one highlight of this film. The constant jokes are appealing yet immature. For example, Paul Blart carries around a vibrating fork with him everywhere that limits his portions of food.

Kevin James’ hilarious performance makes “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” the comedic film it is. He plays his role as an awkward mall cop, who takes his job way too seriously. James’ childish character is the reason these jokes come off as humorous because many of the other characters in the film do not take Paul Blart serious.

Another positive to the film is the setting. The adult-like atmosphere of Vegas is a perfect setting for Blart’s child-like character. Blart enters Vegas preserved with all his childhood innocence. This is ironic because his innocence causes him to act like a child in this adult atmosphere.

The main downside to this film is the horribly written script. Director Andy Fickman tries to make a serious, yet idiotic script that is atrocious. For example, as two criminals with loaded guns are chasing after Paul Blart, he uses a bag of marbles to try and stop them. This scene came off as ludicrous because he attempted to make the criminals appear as if they were going to actually murder Blart, but instead have Blart escape in a foolish way.

As well as the script, this film also fails in its stagnant plot. This is due to the fact that most of the scenes are completely irrelevant. For example, in one scene Paul Blart fights a peacock in front of a group of people who act like nothing is happening. This scene does not impact the main story whatsoever and is used for comedic purposes only.

Overall, this film consists of many cheesy scenes thrown together with no main story. Although the script is atrocious, all the mediocre jokes make it worthwhile.

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” is rated “PG” and is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
