Girls swim team defeats Palos Verdes 123-47

The Mira Costa Varsity swim team competed against Palos Verdes high school in an away Bay league meet on April 23. The women won 123-47 through 42 events and the men tied 85-85 through 42 events as well.

The women’s 200 yard medley relay teams took first and second in their events, respectively. Sophomore Shannon O’Brien, freshman Sophie Kuehler, sophomore Katie Barnhill, and sophomore Lauren Nielsen took first with a time of 1:57.26, winning by 10 seconds.

“We were quick in transitions and swam fast through the water,” O’Brien said. “Also, we have been practicing really hard for Bay league and our efforts have shown today.”

The women’s varsity swim team is 3-4 and 1-1 in Bay league while the men are 2-4-1 and 1-0-1 in Bay league. The team will face Redondo Union High school on April 30th in their final league game of the year.

“Redondo placed 3rd in Bay League last year and we hope to have a competitive day to end Bay league on a high note,” junior Ian Campbell said. “They are the team to beat to win Bay league.”
