Baseball Season Recap

On Friday the Mira costa Baseball Team faced off against Northwood High School at home for a California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section division three match up. The Mustangs were not able to win the game and therefore ended their winning streak, and their season which was filled with terrific playing.

The Mustangs battled it out against the Timberwolves by playing a full ten innings. the Mustangs scored the first run but in the end the Timberwolves would win the game by a score of 1-3.

“We played a good game, just some things didn’t go our way today,” Junior pitcher Trevor Franklin said. “ it never feels good to go out with a loss, but we had an incredible season that I will remember forever,”

During the game both the Mustangs and Northwood were using strong defense, however, the Mustangs were able to score during the third inning when junior outfielder Reese Alexiades made it home for the Mustangs. The score was now 1-0 and the Mustangs had the upper hand.

“We played well it’s just somethings did not go our way today,” Alexiades said. “Even though we were able to make it far in CIF I thought it was a great season.”

The Mustangs were able to keep their lead until the top of the sixth inning when the timberwolves were able to score. The game remained tied up until the seventh inning which caused the game to go into overtime, however, during the tenth inning the Timberwolves scored.

“ Although we were not able to win in CIF we played some great baseball this season,” junior catcher Brett Davis said. “It feels great to have won Bay League and I will remember this season for the rest of my life.”

Earlier in the season the Mustangs played Redondo Union High School both away and at home and were able to win both games which earned them the Bay League title. The mustangs won 5-4 on May twelfth and 6-3 on May fourteenth.

“The record is great and everything but what truly matters is what our team was able to accomplish this season,” junior pitcher Trevor Franklin said. “To beat the highly talented Redondo team is certainly something to acknowledge.”

The Mustangs finished off their season with an overall record of 23-8 and a Bay League record of 8-2. Before playing Northwood High School the Mustangs held a nine game winning streak and Junior pitcher was able to beat a school record by recording eleven game wins.

“We have worked extremely hard all year and to have it pay off and win a Bay League championship at home is incredible,” Franklin said. “We were able to share that day with all our fans and family and it is a memory that will last a lifetime.”
