In the first tournament of the year on Saturday, the Mira Costa boys beach volleyball teams went undefeated against Newbury Park and Simi Valley in Santa Monica, improving their record to 2-0.

Seniors Jackson Wedbush and Declan Wright dominated their first match and won. Winning their first game, 21-17, started a rally for the Mustangs, allowing them to win their final games, 21-13 and 21-7. In their first match, Wright controlled the match with a total of 20 kills.

“The team did an amazing job, and I am very proud of what came out of today,” Wedbush said. “I can’t wait for the next games to come.”

The Mustangs’ upcoming matchups will be played on Saturday versus Palos Verdes and Notre Dame at 10 a.m. at Huntington Beach, and Wright insists if Costa plays the way it did in its first games, the team has a great chance of winning future matches.

“Our games will get harder when league play starts, but if we hold our own and play like we did this weekend, I think we could keep winning,” said Wright.
