Yesterday Mira Costa’s girls golf team easily defeated the Peninsula Panthers, 187-243, in its first bay league game of the year at the Paradise Valley Community College golf course with top performances by junior Lexi Nielsen and senior Briana Andrade.

Not only did the pair have the lowest scores. but Andrade and Nielsoen had certain strategies and skills that helped the team pull out a win.

“I focus on the shot I am about to take,” Andrade said. “I let go of my previous shot when playing to release some of the pressure.”

Coming off of an undefeated season last year, the Mustangs are 1-0 in Bay League and hope to remain undefeated this year. Their next game will be against Santa Monica today at the Mira Chester Washington golf course.

“The girls played well today and we’re very happy to win the first match of the season,” Nielsen said. “We hope to keep an undefeated title this year and a positive attitude.”
