Fantasy football fanatics worldwide prepare themselves as the NFL (National Football League) season approaches; however, for this childish gang of friends playing fantasy football, their lives have just been reborn in “The League”.

Created by Jeff and Jackie Schaffer, “The League” is simply based off the character personas featured in the show. The limited plot line gives actors the free range of their own comedic stints, and prior experience with improvisation leaves a quality dialogue. With no official written script, “The League” proves to impress viewers with modern comedy as it’s moving into season 7.

Each season, the ultimate goal is to win the “Shiva Bowl”, which is similar to the Super Bowl but for their fantasy football league. Last place receives the “Sacko”, which is a trophy made from a bull’s scrotum, and has to endure humiliating punishment which is too crude to print. Many times  these friends sabotage one another just for the glory of winning their priceless fantasy football league.

“The League” has risen as one of the funniest television shows on air because of their unrealistic, yet hilarious scenarios. For example, at the end of season 6, Kevin (Stephen Rannazzisi) and Rafi’s (Jason Mantzoukas) prank goes horribly wrong when their gasoline is ignited by a firework blowing up their new beach home. This absurd and impractical scenario separates “The League” from other comedy.

The unusual and ridiculous pranks between actors is comedy on it’s own. Also the enjoyment of fantasy football globally makes the show relatable to many viewers. Even though few jokes become redundant, “The League” has a bright future in comedy as season 7 approaches.

Season 7 premieres on September 9 on FXX at 10 pm, after the kickoff of the NFL season.
