On Friday at Los Verdes golf course, the Mira Costa girls golf team finished in first place in the South Bay Girl’s Golf Classic tournament with a team score of 397, with Troy High School close behind in second place.

The Mustangs barely defeated Troy High School’s team in second place, winning only by two strokes. The top performers in this tournament tournament were juniors Marni Murez, Lexi Nielsen and sophomore Phoebe Gunn.

“I’m happy we were able to win this tournament again this year,” Nielsen said . “Even though our players played their best, we almost lost to Troy in a really close game.”

Costa’s next game was today against West Torrance at Chester Washington golf course at 2:45 p.m. The team will be going into its next game confidently after a close win in the South Bay tournament.

“We are happy about our win, and we hope that Tuesday will go just as well as today,” senior Briana Andrade said.
