Mira Costa’s boys water polo team placed third on Friday and Saturday in the America’s Finest City Tournament in San Diego against Rancho Bernardo, Grossmont, Coronado, Lodi, and Carlsbad.

On Friday, Costa beat Rancho Bernardo 17-2 and beat Grossmont 13-5. On Saturday, the team beat Lodi 8-7. After, the team lost to Coronado 9-8 in overtime and in the last game of the tournament, the team beat Carlsbad 9-8. Senior attacker Jake Tolt was the top performer for Costa, totaling 17 goals in the tournament.

“Even though we weren’t able to win the tournament, we played really well,” Tolt said. “But it also showed the areas we need to work on.”

Mira Costa will take on West Torrance this Wednesday in a home game. Costa is now 6-2 overall, and their record in Bay League is 2-0.

“Although we didn’t come away winning the tournament, it was a good team effort, and a good way for us to prepare for the rest of the season,” junior attacker Garrett Weatherly said.
