Alumnus Luc Alexiades’ electronic dance music group Druzy enters the ranks of Pennywise and The Descendents,  other music groups that feature Costa alumni.

Alexiades and singer Brianna Conroy are an electronic-pop collaborative duo called Druzy. Druzy recently released an Extended Play, or EP, called “Slow Down” and previously recorded an older EP  entitled “Violent and Vacant,” which was produced within a personal studio in Alexiades’ bedroom.

“Not having to rely on other people is great since we can write, produce, mix and post a song in a matter of days,” Alexiades said. “It’s super efficient and doesn’t cost anything other than the money we have invested in our equipment.”

“Slow Down” was written, sung and produced solely by Alexiades and Conroy. The EP was released through the website EDM.com, which, according to Conroy, is rare since the site tends to only release singles on the  website. Alexiades also released Druzy’s tracks on iTunes and Soundcloud, which, according to him, helped expose their music and style to the public.

“I think that the hardest part is just getting your name out there, since nowadays there’s a lot of people trying to pursue music,” Conroy said. “We are both not very pushy people, so we don’t like to throw our music at every person that we know. We just put it out there and whoever wants to listen can listen.”

Alexiades attended Berklee College of Music, where he met Conroy. However, he decided to leave to pursue music as a full-time career, since, according to Alexiades, Berklee did not supply him with the classes that would help him succeed in the musical genres, such as electronic dance music, that he wished to follow.

“I don’t think it was until I met Brianna that I clicked with someone musically,” Alexiades said. “The connection I have had with her on a creative level is something really rare that you don’t get with a lot of people. It really opened my mind up to the idea of seeing myself creating music for the rest of my life.”

According to Alexiades, he gets most of his inspiration from his environment, different experiences, along with the art that he sees, which makes the music unique to him. Alexiades and Conroy agree that one of the best things about making music is being able to create something new that hasn’t ever been heard before.

“I think our music is our own; I don’t think I’ve heard anything that really sounds like it,” Conroy said. “We are just trying to do whatever naturally comes out. We don’t try to make it sound like something else.”
