The new album ‘Stories’ from Swedish DJ and producer Tim Bergling better known as Avicii turns out to be just another mediocre and, forgettable album. Although Avicii attempts to incorporate new genres to his work, this did not prevent it from being a bland and obnoxious album.

Overall, the album sounds like just another electronic dance music track with nothing that stands out. The repetitive beats, genre-jumping songs, and lyrical simplicity make the album not enjoyable to listen to.

The album was released on October 2, 2015 by Bergling himself, along with many other artists, included in the production. Overall he has a glowing reputation and is known to be one of the most successful DJ’s in the world. He has with several popular tracks like True and has won a handful of awards from the American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards and much more.

Although, Avicii is well respected, his newly released album fails to follow up on his hype. In detail, the beats and rhyme of the songs are obnoxious due to the overwhelming, fast paced beat that becomes constant. The repetitive sounds are not like his usually popular catchy tunes as seen in his hit song Wake Me Up.

Furthermore, a strength the album does have is the several collaborations throughout the songs. Several well known artist including a member of Coldplay, Chris Martin, A three time Grammy Award winner Wyclef, and many more gifted artists add more relevance to the album and gives more of a variety to the album.

The albums simplicity of the music, contributes to the lack of creativity. In the song City Lights and True Believer both demonstrate repetitive and simple lyrics. Overall, the album was lacking the qualities of a good song like tone balance and catchy melodies.

In Stories Bergling attempts to branch out from his usual genres such as electronic dance music and country/folk type into new pop and reggae like music. Although, this was not the best idea. It appears as just a clash of music, and thrown together quickly.

Lastly, the album does have several good components, but the genre-jumping songs were not should not have all been in the same album. Avicii has made it to the top through his loved music yet this time wasn’t able to top his last.

Bergling’s new album Stories is available for purchase digitially for $9.99.
