Mira Costa’s girls water polo team lost to Arroyo Grande High School 4-0 in a non-conference game on Friday at home, with top performances by senior utility Kaylee Brownsberger and junior goalie Katie Nitzberg.

Costa started out slow in the first half as Arroyo Grande scored two goals. In the second half, Costa struggled with its defense and allowed Arroyo Grande to score two additional goals. According to Brownsberger, Friday’s game caught the team off-guard.

“This game was a huge eye-opener for us as we didn’t expect to play a team as put together as today opponent,” Brownsberger said. “Our team was very lazy on offense today, and we need to work more as a unit.”

The Mustangs are now 3-4 overall, and the team plays against Esperanza High School on Saturday in a home game. According to Nitzberg, the team has a lot of potential, and should play great on Saturday.

“I see our team going very far, and I am confident we will do well tomorrow,” Nitzberg said. “Today’s game was a slip-up and as a team, we can’t wait to redeem ourselves on Saturday.”
