Unstoppable.

The Mira Costa girls socccer team traveled to Inglewood High School on Tuesday where it shut out the Sentinels, 8-0, adding another win to its 2-1 Bay League record.

“We stayed humble and worked hard,” senior co-captain Caroline Keever said. “We knew going into the game that it would not be the most competitve one, but that we could still get something out of the game if we worked hard.”

The Mustangs started out slow, as they were unable to finish easy scoring opportunities, junior outside midfielder Emmie Farber said.

“Despite the win, I think we still could have possessed the ball a little quicker and smoother,” Farber said.

Farber was able to make the score 2-0 after hitting a long shot, as well as a finishing off of a pass from senior outside defender Kennedi McCarrol.

Today, we got a chance to focus on our movement and passing of the ball down the field, which was great,” Keever said.

In the end of the second half, Costa continued to dominate as senior forward Michaila Franklin scored on a header and passed another into the net immediately after. Later, junior midfielders Delaney Kluth and Allison Roth as well as junior forward Emma Lindberg scored goals, making the score 7-0 as the Mustangs led going into the second half of the game.

“Today we did a great job of possessing the ball and attacking together to score,” Lindberg said. “We scored a lot of goals by pressuring the other team and supporting each other when we had the ball.”

In the beginning of the second half, the Mustangs were unsuccessful in many scoring attempts due largely to the dead, choppy grass, according to Keever. However, Lindberg was able to score off a cross coming from sophomore Katherine Rogerson, giving the Mustangs their final goal of the game.

“The condition of the field was not great,” Farber said. “However, I thought we did really well in these conditions.”

The Mustangs’ Bay League record now stands at 2-1, and their overall record is 12-1-1. The Mustangs will play Morningside High School at 3 p.m. today at home.

“I think the team is looking great this year, and we have a lot of strong players,” Lindberg said. “Every player has been contributing to our success, and we have really great chemistry.”
