Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Morningside High School 71-20 on the road Friday in the team’s fourth league game of the season. Junior forward Mia Finney lead the Mustangs with her strong rebounding on offense and defense.

Costa took the lead right from the tip off, and continued to extend it throughout the game. By halftime, the Mustangs’ lead by over 25 points. In the second half, they continued to trample the Monarchs.

“Our team did a good job utilizing our press,” sophomore guard Haley Herdman said. “We set the tone by getting five steals within the first couple minutes of the game.”

The Mustangs, now 4-0 in Bay League and 12-6 overall, will take on Narbonne High School at home Saturday in a non-conference game. According to Herdman, Costa must play better around rim if they hope to be successful.

“We need to do better job of being strong under the basket and continue to get as many defensive rebounds as we can.” Herdman said.
