Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Narbonne High School 47-36 Saturday at home in a non-conference game. The Mustangs’ top performer was junior guard Allie Navarette, accumulating 23 points for the team.

Costa got off to a slow start, sacrificing eleven points at the beginning of the first quarter. However, the Mustangs battled in the second half, eventually taking the lead in the third quarter. According to sophomore guard Haley Herdman, the team showed great hustle while they were down.

“We played really well as a team,” Herdman said. “We hustled to almost every ball and had a lot of energy.”

The 13-6 Mustangs now 4-0 in Bay League will take on rival Redondo Union Tuesday in their fifth league game of the season. According to Herdman, Costa will need to be more focused if it hopes to be successful against the Seahawks.

“Our team needs to do a better job of staying engaged in the play no matter what happens,” Herdman said.
