Mira Costa’s track and field team partook in the University of California Los Angeles(UCLA) League of Legends on April 1 at UCLA’s Drake Stadium. The Mustangs competed against other high schools but unlike past meets, the team had the opportunity to watch collegiate athletes compete against one another as well.

Top performers from the boys included sophomore Cody Kallenbach who placed third in the 110 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles, as well as senior Zachariah Augenstein who placed fourth in pole vault. Junior Shante Robinson placed first in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles for the girls. According to coach Roberto Calderon, watching the collegiate athletes provides a great example for the team.

“The team got to watch the collegiate runners compete which is always inspiring,” Calderon said. “We can use this opportunity for our times to improve for larger meets coming up”

The Mustangs next competed in the Arcadia Invitational on April 8-9 which the runners previously had to qualify for. According to senior Ethan Williams, Arcadia is one of the most competitive meets of the season.

“Arcadia is always something we look forward to,” Williams said. “We are going up against the best of the best which puts a lot of pressure on us to do well.”
