Mira Costa’s boys and girls swim teams both defeated Redondo at Redondo Union High School on Thursday in the Mustangs’ final Bay League meet of the season. The girls finished 122-48 and the boys finished 126-44.

Junior Lauren Nielsen and senior Matt Woicik placed first in the 500 freestyle, finishing at 5:09:91 and 4:55:78 respectively. Freshman Alexandra Crisera placed first in the 100 freestyle at 52:20. According to junior Katie Barnhill, the team swam extremely well.

“It was a great victory before league finals next week,” Barnhill said. “Girls varsity is undefeated and we’re excited to see how fast we will swim next week.”

The girls are currently undefeated at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Bay League, while the boys are 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Bay League. They will next swim at the Bay League preliminaries on Tuesday at home. According to Crisera, the Mustangs will most likely have a lot of swimmers make it back to the finals.

“I think that prelims will go really well,” Crisera said. “I think we have a really great shot at winning bay league this year.”
