Manhattan Beach City Council closed down a public Parking Structure #2 for refurbishing due to potential risks of danger within the structure. This will guarantee the safety of residents and visitors in Manhattan Beach during construction which will help the parking availability in Manhattan Beach.

The plan to reconstruct a select number of parking lots in Manhattan Beach was passed by City Council on Feb 2 and 16, 2016 to reconstruct the parking structures, which is located on 222-12th street in Manhattan Beach. The structure was last renovated in 1979 and needs refurbishing to repair the structure such as barriers, height, entries, and requirements which do not currently meet ADA requirements.

The parking lots were long overdue for repairs and remodels and need to be done before the summer season, Manhattan Beach Mayor Mark Burton said. Even though parking structures will be temporarily closed before summer, it is important that the city is prioritizing public safety because of the safety hazards inside the parking structures that could hurt parking structure users.

The main focus of the reconstruction of parking lots is to ensure the safety of public lots for summertime use by residents and visitors. The refurbishments of the parking structures are very overdue and consequently the repairs on Parking Structure #2 are necessary to ensure the safety of people who use the structure, Burton said.

Refurbishing the structure has been a goal of the city council for a while and will benefit Manhattan Beach because parking structures will be safer and more parking will be available. This will help the safety of Manhattan Beach and will guarantee that the parking structures are safe for everyone to use and that the refurbishments will benefit the city, Burton said.

If the parking structures are not refurbished by the summer of this year then the city is going to reopen the structures and wait to finish the construction until fall, Burton said. Refurbishing during the summer could create obstacles like traffic.

The new refurbished lots will provide safer access and will get the structures up to par and where they should be, Burton said. The new structures will also be important for the next ten years as the city will not have to worry about maintenance or structural issues due to the project.
The new structures will be very useful in the city, especially during the summer and will guarantee that they are safe. Although starting the construction before the summer and finishing it during the fall might cause more damages and may elongate the construction time. The construction of the parking structure in Manhattan Beach is helpful for the city because it prioritizes the safety of people using the parking structures.
