This year ASB is going to great lengths to make sure they eliminate all “Prama” and they create a memorable night for those attending Mira Costa’s Prom by making sure they perfect every detail.

Costa Sophomore Anna Harntaweethong was chosen to create the Snapchat geotags for Mira Costa’s 2016 Prom. Harntaweethong used her talents Mira Costa’s yearbook, Hoofprints, to design her own authentic graphics inspired by the “Evening on Sunset” theme that is going to be used at this year’s prom.

“I wanted to incorporate the theme into the geotag so I got my inspiration from one of the banners ASB made and I used those colors to create my final design,” Harntaweethong said.

Harntaweethong was approached in early May by Kalea Frank, a member of ASB, because of her work on the yearbook this school year. Frank knew Harntaweethong was already familiar with the photoshop programs and graphic design because of her experience on Hoofprints, that ultimately aided in completing the geotag for prom.

“I usually use photoshop to edit YouTube videos I make or to work on yearbook projects, so I was familiar with the software I was using,” Harntaweethong said, “It was still interesting to play around with the program and learn new things I have not discovered before.”

Harntaweethong used a program called Photoshop CS6 and also hand drew the designs in order to create her final product. She drew out her design using photoshop and then used other Photoshop tools to finish the designs. She ended up creating two geotags, taking about one hour to make each one, one was a sunset and the other was modeled after the Hollywood Palladium sign.

“A geotag is fun and unique so we thought kids would have fun using it throughout the night,”  Frank said, “It also publicizes the event and is another way to show school spirit.”

ASB decided to promote Prom more this year and felt that a geotag was necessary to enhance the experience of Prom. Along with Harntaweethong the students are excited to see the geotag and use it the night of prom, Frank said. Additionally, Harntaweethong looks forward to promoting other events with the geotags she plans to make in the future for Costa.

“I like using Photoshop and graphic design so it was cool to know that these geotags would be used for such a big event and that so many people would see them,” Harntaweethong said, “I am also making one for yearbook and maybe more for Costa in the future.”
