Heavy rain showers, thunder, and lightning brought the Oct. 19 Mustangs water polo game to a halt. Mira Costa was leading 7-4 as the fourth period was about to begin, but the game was stopped.

The officials called the players out of the pool shortly before play resumed in the fourth period. To be safe, the officials decided to wait 30 minutes before attempting to resume play. After 30 minutes, there was still thunder and lightning and the officials decided to call off the game and play the fourth period at the next time the two teams will meet, Nov. 4.

The top performer for the shortened contest was senior Jake Miller, who had three goals for the Mustangs in three periods of play.

The Mustangs’ record is not affected by this game, and the team’s next game will be Oct. 21 against Bay League rival Palos Verdes. This home game will be the second and final meeting of these two teams of the regular season.
