Quietly tucked in a nondescript office building, Notalking is a private study facility that blows any library completely out of the water.

Notalking is a private study zone located in the Koreatown district of downtown Los Angeles. What differentiates Notalking from student go-tos like the Manhattan Beach Library is the unique condition that no talking is allowed in the facility.  With a comfortable aesthetic, plentiful amenities and unparalleled silence, Notalking is a top tier destination for students wishing to study with minimal distractions.

Run by a UCLA graduate named Jun, Notalking is located on the third floor of an unlabeled office building in Koreatown. From 12-10pm, patrons pay $2.50 per hour of studying. For an additional fee, students can study there until 2am, but prior reservations are required to stay after midnight. The facility contains rows of individual desks separated by dividers, as well as a “Yestalking Room” for students wishing to study in groups.

The concept of a study area with absolutely no talking whatsoever pays off enormously. Notalking is one of the most silent places to study in the Los Angeles area, as the only sounds visitors may hear is the quiet hum of the air-conditioning machine. For students who struggle with distractions and paying attention, Notalking lends itself to completely enveloping oneself in their studies.

The setup in Notalking is incredibly simple and comfortable. For the $2.50 fee, visitors receive a private desk with dividers, a miniature lamp and power outlets for charging electronics. Initially, the seating looks incredibly uncomfortable, but patrons will be pleased to find that seat cushions are provided on many. The condensed layout on each desk provides students with essential components for a studying session without the need to ever get up.

For those who need a quick energy boost, the amenities offered at Notalking are plentiful and satisfying. The front desk offers multiple options for iced coffees and energy drinks, as well as abundant options for snacks, ranging from rice bowls to protein bars. The options offered for food and drinks are satisfying enough to quell any fatigue or hunger to power through a round of studying.

Not only are food and drink offered at Notalking, but school supplies are sold as well at low prices, including earplugs, highlighters and notebooks. As well as stationery and supplies, Notalking offers copying services for only 15 cents and free document scanning as well. Visitors will find no reason to leave the complex due to the fantastic amenities and services offered.

The only detraction to Notalking is locating the facility itself. Located inside an unlabeled office complex, visitors will find themselves confounded as the front doors are locked shut with a small slip of paper on the door that says to use the garage entrance. The garage entrance is nothing more than an emergency door held open by a carpet, and when the building’s guard is not present, it can be quite dumbfounding to first-time visitors.

Containing impressive amenities, a comfortable aesthetic and absolute silence, Notalking is a studying experience like no other. For students wishing to have hours of distraction-less work time, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Notalking is located at 3434 West 6th Street, Unit #310, Los Angeles and is open from 12-10pm daily.
