The latest exhibit at the California Science Center, “The Science Behind Pixar,” provides extended insights into the studio while offering a fun, interactive atmosphere.

“The Science Behind Pixar” is sure to please visitors of any age level, as adults will find the extensive behind-the-scenes information fascinating, whilst children will be enthralled by the massive amount of computer games to play with. With a wide variety of subjects covered, inventive forms of interactivity and a plethora of behind-the-scenes secret, the exhibit will entertain anyone from the most rabid Pixar fan to someone who knows nothing about it.

“The Science Behind Pixar” exhibit was created by the Boston Museum of Science in collaboration with Pixar, opening on October 15th. Featuring over 40 different digital stations, the exhibit features a plethora of interactive activities aimed at educating people on the creative process behind animated films. Opened on October 15th, the Pixar exhibit is scheduled to run through April 2017 at the California Science Center.

The first thing one notices upon entering “Pixar” is the massive variety of filmmaking tools presented in the exhibit. Instead of focusing on basic aspects like writing, storyboarding and animation, the minds behind the Pixar exhibit focus on the intricate processes that make the films what they are. Every Pixar film is utilized in the exhibit to help visitors understand the creative process behind them. By utilizing certain films to represent different processes, such as ‘Cars’ for the surfaces exhibit, the processes behind the film can be communicated much more clearly.

The exhibition could have easily been a monotonous presentation of technologies the average person wouldn’t understand, but the minds behind the exhibit communicate them brilliantly. Visitors can head over to the simulation station, and design a school of fish from Finding Nemo, adjusting the size, distance and types of movements the fish make. By creating interactive workstations displays, visitors can actively engage in, and understand, the processes required to make a Pixar film.

The most impressive aspect of the “Science Behind Pixar” exhibit is the extended insight it gives fans of the studio into their creative process. The extreme amount of effort that goes into these films is clearly emphasized, as visitors are guided through the extensive processes, such as 3D modeling, that go into the film before animation can even begin. The exhibit could have easily been a shallow promotional tool for the studio, but it is designed to truly help visitors learn.

The “Science Behind Pixar” exhibit is an intriguing and fun addition to the California Science Center as visitors are sure to learn new things about the studio. The interactive displays make the lessons accessible to any visitor, and families are sure to have a great time.

The California Science Center is open until 5pm daily and tickets to The Science Behind Pixar range from $11 to $16. You can find out more about the exhibit through the link below.
