Serra’s aggressive defense made it difficult for Costa to score in the third quarter, ending 52-33. Costa was unable to make a comeback in the fourth quarter and Serra won the game, 69-48.

“We had a lot of turnovers tonight, and we crumbled under pressure, but we’re definitely working on that,” Toyooka said.

Costa is now 0-1 overall, and will play their second game of the Battle At The Beach Tournament on Wednesday at Redondo Union High School, against either Chaminade or Bishop Montgomery.

“We have practice tomorrow, and we’re definitely going to go really hard,” said Toyooka. “ We’re going to try and simulate what we’re going to face next game, so we can be ready for the competition.”
