Mira Costa’s Soroptimist Club, an all-girls volunteer group, will conclude its annual toy drive today. The club collected toys for the 1739 Crisis Center, a center for women and children leaving abusive households or living in poverty-stricken areas. The club hopes to collect 100 toys, S Club President and senior Julia Dominesey said.

S Club is an all female organization at Costa which meets once a week. The group participates in various volunteer work across the community. It has been collecting toys in good condition since Monday and, according to event coordinator Isabel Gray, the club hopes to collect over 100 toys.

“I think the toy drive is a great way to reach out to the community,” S Club Representative Emily Angstreich said. “As a child, I loved getting toys for Christmas so I hope that these kids feel that same sense of joy.”

S Club members will visit the 1739 Crisis Center on Friday to distribute the toys to those living in the shelter. The shelter houses women and children who have been in abusive households, are homeless, or are living in other poverty stricken situations.

“I think this will benefit the community since the holiday season is a time to give back and value everything you have,” S Club President Julia Dominesey said. “We have the unique opportunity to give back to women and children and I think it’s just a wonderful thing we are able to do.”
