Eight of Costa’s track and fielders placed first at El Camino College on Saturday in the South Bay Champions Invitational meet.

The meet hosted a multitude of schools from all over the South Bay, including West Torrance and Redondo Union High Schools. Since the meet was invitational, the teams did not receive group scores. Instead, individual players received medals in their respective divisions. The Mustangs had many athletes in each division receive medals, but seniors Caleb Llorin and Margot Mel de Fontenay led the charge, placing first in the 800-meter sprint and the 300-meter hurdles, respectively.

“Overall, I think Costa’s performance, compared to other teams, was superior with many of our athletes coming in top three in their events,” junior Tony Shar said. “We’re all very happy with the finished results.”

This was the Mustangs’ last non-league meet of the season. The Mustangs, now 4-1, will compete in the Bay League Preliminaries at Waller Stadium on Saturday at 9 a.m.

“It was a very successful meet for Costa,” junior Xavier Court said. “We performed well at El Camino, and it will definitely give us a boost going into Bay League Preliminaries next week.”
