Mira Costa’s annual winter choir concert, “This Shining Night”, showcased four choirs, after-school ensembles, and students from Costa’s instrumental program on Dec. 13.

The Concert Choir, which contains two groups of sopranos and one group of altos, performed three winter songs. They performed “Wassail Song” by composer R. Vaughan Williams, “This Christmastide” by Jane McCulloch and Donald Fraser, and “Hanerot Halalu” by Lanche Chass.

Mira Costa’s Multi-Cultural Choir sang three holiday songs as well. They performed “Walk Together Children”, “Dry Your Tears Afrika”, and “Light One Candle”. The Advanced Women’s Chorale, composed of two soprano and alto groups, performed “Laudamus Te”, “Ave Maria”, and “Che Faceste”.

Vocal Ensemble performed “Benedictus”, “Ave Maria”, “Os Justi”, “La Seranata”, and “I Saw Ships Come Sailing In”. Senior Nick Zobel and junior Adam Gerber had featured solos in this portion of the concert, and there was a trio of seniors Kellianne Safarik and DJ Stanfill, and sophomore Elissa Wells. This choir collaborated with Multi-Cultural and sang “Go Tell It On The Mountain” with solos from junior Elan Gratrix, senior Marchan Hutto, and senior Kellianne Safarik.

“The winter concert went amazingly well this year. All of the choirs were featured and did fantastic jobs. We all practice so much, and it is really nice to show the audience our passion,” Advanced Women’s Chorale member sophomore Rachel Azafrani said.
