Mira Costa Cross Country is racing forward with a change of setting after updating their cross country course to one centered on Costa’s campus.

Costa returned to their original course on campus after 25 years of running the course at Polliwog Park. The course encompassed all aspects of Costa’s campus, including the new Meadows field and hallways between buildings.

“I like the new course because it feels very fast-paced throughout the campus and runs relatively quickly compared to our old course at Polliwog Park,” senior Xavier Court said.

The new course was used on Oct 12 when Costa Cross Country hosted the first Bay-League meet of the season. Costa held the top places with Redondo and Palos Verdes High Schools closely behind.

“The team placed well, and I believe that our persistence and consistency enabled us to come away with the win,” Court said.

The boys ran first with Court placing first with a time of 15:08.70, senior Quinn Satow placing second (15:16.90), and junior Cy Chittenden placing third (15:21.70). The girls ran next with junior Olivia Hacohen placing first with a time of 17:16.60 and junior Brooke Inouye placing fourth with a time of 17:40.

“I’m proud of how we finished the race because we dominated the standings for both boys and girls,” Court said.

The Mustangs will continue to use this course for future home meets. The course starts on Waller Stadium’s track, goes around the new field, continues through the neighborhood surrounding Costa, runs back into Costa’s hallways, and finishes back at the stadium’s track.

“I’m glad we will be using this track for future meets,” Court said. “I think that we all feel comfortable on our home turf and our knowledge of the course gives us a strong advantage.”
