Music enthusiast and junior Liam Pachler amplifies his ability to play multiple instruments and fine tune for music by producing a series of his own songs.

Pachler learned how to play the double bass in seventh grade, when his music career began. He was motivated to start playing electric bass by Thundercat’s ability to play a six string bass. After listening to multi-genre music producer Flying Lotus,Toro y Moi and Mac Demarco, Pachler decided to produce his own music.

“I have loved music from a very young age,” Pachler said. I then started learning different instruments so I could put a song together and see what other people thought about it, for fun. At first I wanted to mimic other bands music, but then I started to produce music that was more original.”

Approximately, Pachler spends two hours producing music everyday, which has led to his creation of 200 songs. After he records each instrument into an individual channel, he mixes it all together and adds special effects such as glitch effects and reverse effects. Pachler uses software programs such as Logic Pro X, Ableton and Garageband along with his instrument recordings.

“The best part about recording is realizing that a specific instrument can make the sound a lot better,” Pachler said. “I like seeing the impact that one instrument can have on the song even if it is a small role.”

On Jan 20, Pachler’s instrumental will be coming out with his first Long Playing Album titled 100.° The album consists of six songs of instrumentals. The genres are Neo Soul and Indie Rock, and the instruments used are bass, drum, guitar, synthesizer and piano.

“I want this LP to reflect what I have been working on and to show what I do on my free time,”Pachler said. “I want people to have a nice listening experience.”

Pachler received assistance from his friends, such as pianist Jesse Eades and guitarists Michael Zuker and Cole Fishman. In order to produce his music, Fades and Zuker helped record pieces of the songs while Fishman recorded the guitar in the third track of the soon to be released album.

“Track three was my favorite song because the payoff was the biggest since it took the longest to make,” Pachler said. “It was the most diverse and thought out song because it has three different sections which are a synthesizer and drums, guitar and then a guitar solo.”

Even though most of his music is self-taught, he still uses the help of his private bass teacher Dave Stark. He also uses constructive criticism and collaborates with his friends to record the best music possible.

“My friends are critical as they tell me what I can do to improve and they encourage me to try different things,”Pachler said. “They enjoy what I make, but they are not afraid to critique it because they know it is in both of our best interests.”

After 100° comes out, Pachler plans to expand his horizons by exploring new genres such as psychedelic rock and jazz. In addition he has selected singers through connections and hopes to recruit more from Soundcloud in order to vocalize the songs. Pachler also plans to improve his computer software skills.

“I want to become more acquainted with the editing software because I want to be able to produce the best quality sound possible,” Pachler said. If you can figure out how to manipulate the sounds so you can get the clearest sounds possible it sounds more professional, which is what I am going for.”
