The Mira Costa hockey team was defeated by El Segundo High School, 7-3, on March 22 at the Toyota Sports Center. Senior center player Roberto Kampfner, was the top performer of the game for his defense against opposing goals.

The Mustangs remained scoreless for the first two periods with El Segundo taking an early lead by a score of 3-0. In the beginning of the third period, sophomore Anna Gallagher scored a goal, followed by two more goals from senior Malcom Bohan and freshman Ashton Arbab, bringing the score to a 3-3 tie.

“We got caught off guard by their speed but we managed to get three goals back pretty quickly,” Kampfner said. “We are still learning to play with each other since it is only the second game of the season.”

The Mira Costa hockey team is now 0-2 overall and will next face off against their next opponent at the Toyota Sports Center on March 29.

“My overall consensus is that El Segundo is definitely one of the stronger teams in our league,” Coach Barry Dreger said. “The biggest challenge for us is that our players are just learning to work with one another since it’s still so early in the season.”
