The Mira Costa boys volleyball team defeated Redondo 3-1 on Tuesday, May 1 at Redondo Union High School. The top performer of the match included senior opposite Bobby Barkley who led the Mustangs to a win with his high hitting percentage and numerous blocks.

“I think our serving and blocking won us this match because our blocking was the best it has been the whole season in the match tonight,” junior defensive specialist Will Bond said.

Costa came out strong in the first set with consistent serving and a strong back row that was led by libero Lauch Farris. Redondo came back in the second set and pulled out a win but the Mustangs’ next two wins in the third and fourth set were achieved with many critical blocks and strong sets from sophomore Jack Walmer.

The Mustangs finished the Bay League season with an overall record of 9-2, Bay League 7-1. Costa will move on to CIF next week and the Mustangs’ next opponent is Huntington High School on Wednesday, May 2 at home.

“We had our best two weeks of practice leading up to this match and I think it shows our ability to deal with the challenges we faced throughout the entire season,” Bond said.
