Unexpected Fire Alarm Interrupts Students

Yesterday during third period, Costa's fire alarm sounded, interrupting classes around the campus. This marks the first time the alarm has gone off this year, but will definitely not be the last.

The fire alarm went off yesterday during third period, and all students and staff proceeded to evacuate to their assigned evacuation sites, Waller Stadium and the practice athletic field.

After a minute of the alarm sounding, Vice Principal Bledsoe’s Secretary Jan Norris announced over the loudspeaker that the situation had not yet been cleared. Students and faculty continued the evacuation process, meeting at their designated spots.

“When the fire alarm went off, I was pretty startled,” senior Sam Collins said. “I was surprised that they said it wasn’t all clear at first; it was hectic.”

Approximately 10 minutes later, the administration cleared all personnel to return to their classes and offices. While it remains unclear what triggered the alarm, there was no threat to anyone on campus, Vice Principal Hall’s Secretary Cindy Gardner said.

“Our teacher was very upset because it took so much out of our class time and all the kids were very annoyed because it made us not have enough time to do our work,” junior Jade Trejo said.
