After winning the Bay League Champions title for a seventh year in a row girls varsity golf played in the first round of CIF finals on Oct. 23 at Los Verdes Golf Course against the other top teams in the region. Coach Cox sent senior captains Gabi Kiger and Shani Waite, junior Sarah Matsuoka, junior Kate Stargardter, sophomore Hannah Gedion, and freshman Lucy Langlois to compete for Mira Costa.

“The course was difficult but Coach Cox helped us prepare by having us map out the course before so we knew what to expect,” said Langlois

Kiger, Shoda, and Waite were selected for Bay League first team all league with Kiger scoring an average of 39.111 from all of the matches during the Bay League, Waite with 41.222, and Shoda with 42.778. The second team players were Matsuoka with 43.111, Stargardter with 44.278, and Gedion with 44.833. Langlois also qualified for the CIF finals with her league average of 47.100.

“I was shocked to be taken into the CIF finals my freshman year and happy to compete with all of the best players from our league,” said Langlois.

Of those that competed in the finals Kiger, Waite, and Matsuoka advanced to the CIF individual tournament at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai on Oct. 28.

“My fellow teammates played very well and are excited to be going to Ojai for the CIF individuals tournament next week,” said Langlois.

*In a previous version of this article Shani Waite was listed as a junior, but is a senior on the Girls Golf team. Gabi Kiger was also listed as player of the year of Bay League, but has been corrected as she was not player of the year of Bay League.
