Mira Costa Dance Team Sells Wreaths

The Mira Costa dance team danced into the holidays with the team’s annual wreath sale.

The dance team sold Christmas wreaths as a fundraiser, beginning with pre-sales in November. Wreaths could be pre-ordered from Costa dancers or bought on the MBX Foundation website. The team offered an option of six different-sized wreaths that the dance team customized by adding ribbon decorations. After sorting the wreaths in the cafeteria, the dancers then distributed the wreaths to each customers’ home on Dec. 6. The fundraiser was a success for the program, according to senior Ambria Benson, as the dance team managed to sell a total of 600 wreaths.

“The wreaths fundraiser helps raise money for all of our dance team activities throughout the year, including our banquet and competitions,” Benson said. “They also help pay for both our junior varsity and varsity coaches.”

This year, the dance team has performed at various halftime shows at the football home games. On Friday, they will have their first game of the 2019-20 basketball season. Currently, Costa’s competition team is also practicing for upcoming competitions. While this fundraiser supports the program financially, it also is a way for the dancers to ring in the holiday season, bond as a team, and is a chance for junior varsity and varsity dancers to interact.

“My favorite part about selling wreaths is delivering them and spreading holiday cheer,” Benson said.
