The Mustangs didn’t miss a beat as they defeated Peninsula 34-29 in their first game of the season.

Mira Costa Girls Basketball kicked off bay league with a win against the Peninsula Panthers on Tuesday, Jan. 7th at MBMS. After a close game full of skilled plays, the Mustangs finished it off by beating the Panthers with the score of 34-29.

“Tonight the team worked well and were able to clean it up in the second half,” senior forward Amanda Barba said. “We did a good job communicating and we ended up executing a strong win.”

The top performer of the game was senior forward Kim Waller. Waller continuously kept a positive attitude and was able to help motivate her teammates with her amount of never ending energy. According to Barba, Waller did a good job finishing around the key during their game against Peninsula.

“Our team played really good defense tonight and did it consistently,” Waller said. “My personal strengths were keeping calm and being poised in the times where the game got really stressful.”

The Mustangs are now scheduled to play their next game against Palos Verdes High School at 6:00 on Friday, Jan. 10th at Palos Verdes. The girl’s Bay League record is currently 1-0 and their overall record is 10-6.

“Our season should be a successful one if we keep working hard during practice and performing well in games,” Waller said. “We are all hoping to make CIF and make a good playoff run!”
