The Mustangs couldn’t keep up with the Olympians during their game against Leuzinger.

The Mira Costa Girls Basketball Team lost to Leuzinger High School on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Leuzinger. The Mustangs started off very strong due to their aggressive defense and energetic offense, but eventually they lost momentum and weren’t able to carry out their plays. After falling behind, they were not able to catch up and eventually fell to the Olympians  34-43.

“For me, my mental game was completely down so every mistake I made got into my head which led to a huge lack of confidence in myself,” sophomore point guard Cara Susilo said. “It’s still something I’m struggling with so this game was a good reminder how important mental game is. other than that, I need to cut down on my turnovers and make better passes.”\

The top performer of this game was Cara Susilo. Susilo was able to keep the Olympian’s offense on their toes by keeping them from getting any breaks to score. She kept her energy up throughout the game and helped lead her teammates to communicate and stay calm.

“Personally, I think my best strength is really communicating and having a lot of energy on defense,” Susilo said. “I am constantly helping my teammates by pushing them to defend well and work together.”

The Mustangs are currently scheduled to play their next game against Centennial High School at MBMS on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. Until then, they are practicing daily to learn from their mistakes and comeback from their loss. They’re current overall Bay League record is 2-1.

“I think as long as we continue to play as a team and with a lot of energy, we will do really well this season,” Susilo said.
