Editors-in-Chief

During our time on La Vista leading up to last spring, one thing each staff member could count on every Monday through Friday was walking into room 101. While uncertainty now looms over this school year, we are still determined to inform the Costa community of current events, which we believe to be more important now than ever before.

With the death of George Floyd in May, a new era of the civil rights movements has begun, and we believe it is our responsibility to provide a voice for the students of Costa. This publication believes in the fundamental equality of all. We have never hesitated to cover controversial topics, and we do not plan to start now.

We do not know when or if we are returning to campus this year, and although some would see this as a setback, we choose to see it as a learning opportunity. We have taken the summer to better ourselves as writers, allies and a program, which includes the reinstatement of our video section and a stronger online presence. We see the value in a traditional newspaper and plan to continue printing, but we also see the future of journalism is utilizing the technological advantages we have today.

To Josie and Madeleine: Words cannot express how thankful we are for all you have taught us, and coming from journalists, that is saying a lot. We hope to carry on the precedents you have set, from your commitment to always do what is best for the paper to your unbreakable work ethic. Despite the physical distance between our staff, we hope to bring everyone together as the editors-in-chief before us have.

To our editorial staff: We realize how challenging this year will be, but we entrust that as a collective body we will work together to make the most of what is to come. We know that none of you expected to start off the year from home, but nonetheless we know that you are capable of filling the shoes of those who came before you. We are excited to take this journey with you, La Vista 2020-21.
