Shawn Mendes’s newest release ‘Wonder’ captivates new audiences and avid listeners with sounds different from his past releases, and offers meaningful lyrics which leave listeners wanting to listen to the album again.
‘Wonder’ takes a deep dive into the journey that Mendes has taken over the last year. By exploring new melodies, Mendes creates a world of music that is different from what he has released before. With more upbeat tracks and musicality, the album reminds listeners that he creates music representing who he truly is.
Shawn Mendes is a Canadian singer and song-writer who got his start from posting videos of himself singing covers of popular songs on YouTube and Vine. Mendes released his first album ‘Handwritten’ in 2015, and has been recording music and traveling on world tours ever since.
Released on Dec. 4 by Island Records, ‘Wonder’ is Mendes’s fourth studio album. The album is composed of 14 songs, and the deluxe version is composed of 24 songs, six of which are live recordings of some of his tracks from the album, two remixes of his song ‘Wonder,’ and other additional songs. Mendes collaborated with fellow Canadian Justin Bieber on the track ‘Monster.’ Along with ‘Monster,’ Mendes collaborated with girlfriend Camila Cabello on his deluxe album for a cover of ‘The Christmas Song.’
Mendes explores who he is, both musically and lyrically throughout the album. Mendes combines his usual soft and calming melodies with his catchy and fast paced songs that break up the potential monotony of the album and leaves the listener wondering what the next song will sound like.
‘Wonder’ is beautifully composed and gives listeners a cohesive experience, leaving them satisfied and making them feel as if they have experienced the same journey that Mendes went through while creating the album. The emotion can be felt in the songs and the lyrics allow for listeners to connect to the experiences that Mendes writes and sings about throughout the album.
The most enjoyable song on the album ‘Wonder’ is ‘Teach Me How To Love.’ The song embodies the amazing vocals and memorable lyrics that longtime fans and new listeners will enjoy. The rhythm of the song is breathtaking and unforgettable and is considered a song that could be listened to on repeat.
‘Wonder’ delivers the same caliber of strength that Mendes’s other albums possess and displays the talent that Mendes has for both songwriting and performing. The powerful and relatable lyrics and melodies keeps the audience engaged and is a noteworthy listen.
