Costa junior, Sarah Fox uses her artistic talents to create intricate art designs and sells them via her Instagram account, @sarahfoxart, that she created on Aug. 1, 2020.

Fox began creating art nearly 17 years ago when she was only a baby learning how to walk. As she got older, Fox began taking art more seriously and developed a deep love for the various colors and canvases she used to express her mind.

“I didn’t think about why I was drawing when I was a baby, I just did it,” Fox said. “I believe that there is a lot of beauty in just allowing the mind to go blank while in a creative flow state.”

Fox’s favorite artist at the moment is Yoshitaka Amano, and she uses his art, as well as other artists, to inspire her pieces. Fox also takes inspiration from everything she is surrounded by, and uses this inspiration to create different types of art with a variety of materials, as she doesn’t want to limit herself to one specific art form.

“I could take inspiration from a common everyday experience, the people that surround me, the music I listen to, or anything I see,” Fox said. “I guess I derive inspiration from all of my senses: touch, taste, hearing, sight, and smell. I don’t like to limit myself to any particular style or way of doing art. I’d rather allow my creativity to project whatever it wants to on whatever surface I’m using.”

Depending on the piece Fox is creating, the time can vary. Short doodles and sketches normally take Fox 5 -10 minutes to complete, while longer and more detailed pieces can take much longer.

“Whenever I’m drawing, I lose track of time because of how consumed I am by the state of just drawing,” Fox said. “It’s almost like I enter a trance where time is no longer real.”

During quarantine, Fox decided she wanted to sell some of her art. Fox created an Instagram account where she sells custom prints, custom clothes, and customers can direct message her for commissions and interest in purchasing an original of Fox’s.

“I had never done this before and it was something I really wanted to do,” Fox said. “The best part is that everything comes from pure creativity and the mind.”

Drawing is something Fox uses as a creative outlet and allows her to express herself, while also expressing the many thoughts of her creative mind. The best part for Fox is that everything is purely from her mind and creativeness.

“Drawing is the tangible projection of my imagination,” Fox said. “My brain sends signals to my hands to control the medium, which visually represents that process.”

For Fox, art is something that doesn’t present obstacles she can’t resolve. Fox believes anyone can do art, as long as they allow themself to have an open and creative mind.

“Oftentimes, people think it is difficult because they are trying to capture reality,” Fox said. “Drawing is really just really allowing oneself to freely express creativity. Anyone can do it!”

Fox hopes to have a career doing the thing she loves while also improving the environment. In the meantime, Fox will continue to create original pieces and sell them on her Instagram, @sarahfoxart.

“I’m leaning more towards architecture because I’m fascinated by geometry and using creativity to create buildings, but I’d want to do sustainable architecture that works with the environment, as it is near and dear to my heart,” Fox said. “I will always have my recreational art on the side though, and will continue to sell it, as well as grow my own business.”
