Girls water polo lost its final game of the season, 15-5, to Wilson High School on Saturday at Costa.

The  Mustangs  had a slow start as the first, second and third quarters ended 5-0, 8-0 and 11-0. They started to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, with two goals by both sophomore Julia Almendariz and senior Emma May as well as a goal by senior Elizabeth Terry, but Costa still fell short in the end.

“I think we were all a bit tired from all of the previous games we had this week,” Almendariz said. “As we went through each quarter we were  able  to  understand  how  the other team was playing, which allowed us to score more goals in the last quarter.”

With losses to Harvard Westlake and Redondo as well as a win against Santa Monica earlier this week, this loss to Wilson concludes the girls water polo season with an overall record of 4-6.

“Even though it was tough, I think we all played well as a team.” Terry said. “We saw it as a learning opportunity, and everyone took something new to work on.”
