Selena Gomez’s latest album release, “Revelación,” pleasantly surprises listeners with fresh tracks that trace back to her roots as both a person and an artist.

The extended play offers powerful melodies blended with Gomez’s signature vocals, making for a delightful listen. With its Latin flare, “Revelación” adds an incredible originality that hasn’t been seen in Gomez’s past album releases.

Gomez is an American singer and actress known musically for her pop melodies, but she never confines herself to a single genre. Gomez rose to fame with her role as Alex Russo on the hit Disney series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which she later used to transcend herself into music.

Released by Interscope Records, “Revelación” is Gomez’s first Spanish-language EP and was released on March 12. The mini-album is composed of seven tracks and includes collaborations with artists including DJ Snake and Myke Towers.

All of Gomez’s past releases have notoriously been about love and all the struggles that come with it, but “Revelación” offers a new rawness found in the Spanish lyrics that bring a flirtatious and romantic feel to the EP. Each track in the release demonstrates Gomez’s own stylistic touches and her ability to capture undying romances through impactful and playful lyrics.

Since this is the first time that Gomez is releasing an entire EP that revisits her heritage, there is an undying emotion that is present and can be heard through her vocals. Her connection with the lyrics and melodic precision makes for a deeply personal experience. This emotion creates a lasting impact on listeners while incorporating an element of relatability, as each track touches on basic struggles that come with relationships, as well as romance as its own individual theme.

One downside to “Revelación” is that the solely Spanish lyrics aren’t easily accessible for all of Gomez’s long-time listeners who aren’t fluent in the language. Although the Spanish lyrics make the EP feel fresh and flirtatious, regular listeners who are used to the artist’s pop vocals may be turned off since the tracks are unlike anything Gomez has done before and extends from her typical music niche.

The fluidity between tracks is an exceptional high point for the EP. Each track offers the same soulful vocals but carries out the journey of a relationship, adding an enjoyable element of cohesiveness to the new release.

The most notable track of “Revelación” is “De Una Vez,” which remarkably launches Gomez into a new era of her career and separates her from her past releases on her failed love attempts. This track sheds light on self love and instills confidence in listeners who have known and followed the artist’s journey, adding a sense of newfound maturity and authentic relatability to the EP.

The EP is one of Gomez’s most notable releases to date with its uncanny originality from the romance-infused Spanish lyrics. With its powerful melodies and display of Gomez’s growth as an artist, the mini-album surpasses all expectations and provides an enjoyable listening experience.

“Revelación” was released on March 12 and is available for purchase on iTunes and Google Play and can be streamed on a variety of services including Spotify and Apple Music.
